African-American Students Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials related to African-American students at Lawrence, dating from 1869 to 1997. This includes administrative materials related to the recruitment and enrollment of African Americans as well as materials created by African-American student organizations and committees. The bulk of the materials in this collection date from the 1960s and 1970s. This collection was arranged by the Archives prior to 2005.

Carl Waterman Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials relating to Carl Waterman, Conservatory of Music faculty member from 1910 to 1953 and Dean of the Conservatory from 1920 to 1949. Materials include articles and biographical information, correspondence relating to a retirement gift for Waterman, and photographs.

Colman Family Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials related to several members of the Colman family who attended or were otherwise connected with Lawrence University since its founding, including Henry Root Colman, Henry Colman, and Lucinda Darling Colman. The bulk of the collection consists of Lucinda Darling Colman's handwritten "Memory Pictures," written between 1923 and 1930. Colman recalls her childhood, attending Lawrence in the 1850s, and her travels on the west and east coasts from 1906 through 1914....

Elizabeth Wilson Collection

Scope and Contents The collection contains materials pertaining to and created by Elizabeth Wilson, Lawrence University graduate of 1890, dating from 1876 to 1988.  The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, articles about Wilson, and a number of her speeches and writings. Writings include "The Road Ahead," "The Lawrence That I Knew," and "Songs, 1943-1944."

Ethel M. and James G. Barber Collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains family papers of Ethel M. and James G. Barber as well as materials documenting Ethel's contributions to Lawrence as a trustee and donor. Materials include family documents such as marriage licenses and genealogies, correspondence, and photographs. Records date from 1880 to 2000.

Friends of Gladys Taber Collection

Honor Societies Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials documenting honor societies at Lawrence, dating from 1912 to 2009. Files document local societies, such as Mace, as well as chapters of national honor societies, including Mortar Board, Lambda Sigma, and Phi Beta Kappa. Materials include articles, minutes, correspondence, photographs, and scrapbooks.
